Women who have made a difference

Mrs. Lydia Moss Bradley, a savvy businesswoman and philanthropist founded Bradley Polytechnic Institute in 1897, provided land for Saint Francis Hospital, and supported many other civic projects in the Peoria community. More than a hundred years later, another savvy businesswoman and physician, Theresa S. Falcon-Cullinan, has made outstanding contributions to education, the healthcare industry and the Peoria community.

A native of the Philippines, Dr. Falcon-Cullinan earned her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila in 1969. She came to the U.S. seeking educational and professional opportunities, and she found them.  She completed her internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at MacNeal Memorial Hospital Berwyn, a University of Chicago affiliated hospital.  In 1979, she became board certified and a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  In 1980, she moved to central Illinois and started her medical practice. While practicing medicine and managing a healthcare company, she enrolled in Bradley University’s Executive MBA Program in the Foster College of Business Administration and earned her MBA in 2005.

What she learned in her EMBA program she valued, used and appreciated, and she possessed a desire to help others receive their MBA. Living by the simple maxim, “Give without remembering and receive without forgetting,” Dr. Falcon-Cullinan made it possible for Bradley University to endow and name the EMBA program in the Foster College of Business Administration. The Theresa S. Falcon Executive MBA is now the first in the world to be named by and for a woman.

“Dr. Falcon-Cullinan's commitment enriches our exceptional program by enabling Bradley to bring internationally known speakers and scholars to campus to interact with students and faculty," said President Joanne K. Glasser.  “Thanks to Dr. Falcon-Cullinan’s generosity, she will help educate Bradley students and prepare them to compete in the worldwide marketplace. With her support, she is continuing to elevate our Executive MBA program to national stature. We deeply appreciate her generosity to Bradley and her passion for learning."

Through her generosity and vision, Lydia Moss Bradley made a difference in the lives of generations of men and women, including the life of a bright and caring professional woman from the Philippines, Theresa S. Falcon. Now the EMBA program that bears her name will also make a difference in the lives of others seeking educational and professional opportunities.
